Hyundai's Boulder Off-Roader Concept To Spawn A Jeep Wrangler Rival

Hyundai’s Boulder Off-Roader Concept: A Jeep Wrangler Rival in the Making

Hyundai has unveiled its Boulder Off-Roader Concept at the New York International Auto Show, setting its sights on competing with iconic SUVs like the Jeep Wrangler, Ford Bronco, and Land Rover Defender.

The Boulder Concept is built on Hyundai’s first-ever body-on-frame (ladder-frame) architecture, emphasizing strength and durability. This platform, set to underpin a future midsize pickup truck by 2030, offers several advantages:

  • Higher torsional rigidity for improved handling and passenger safety.
  • Enhanced towing capacity due to its robust construction.
  • Superior off-road durability thanks to the fully boxed chassis design.

The concept boasts a rugged exterior with a boxy silhouette, muscular proportions, and a tall, upright front fascia. It features vertically stacked LED headlights, an off-road bumper with tow hooks, and distinctive ‘H’ shaped DRLs in Morse code. The Boulder is equipped with 37-inch mud-terrain tires, offering excellent off-road capabilities.

While the Boulder Concept may not become a production model, it hints at future SUV derivatives, particularly given Hyundai’s focus on expanding its off-road offerings.
